When I turned 60 I finally decided to buy a high deductible health plan from Aetna. I went to the doctor, and he found a lump on my thyroid. $1,500 in diagnostic tests later, it appears to be nothing to worry about. Aetna claims that my condition was preexisting and refuses to even deduct it from my $5,000 deductible, which I will probably never reach this year anyway. So now I pay $167 per month (up from the advertised $157/month), along with the $1,500 medical bill. I am thinking that I might be better off without any “help” from Aetna Insurance Co.
