Across the pond, new mom, Kate Middleton, is getting health care fit for a future queen. Still, the average British pregnant woman doesn’t have to break the bank to get good medical treatment, thanks to the United Kingdom’s universal healthcare system. But in America, it’s a far different story. Prenatal care and childbirth in the United States are the costliest in the world. American parents pay a premium for choosing to have children, whether or not they have health insurance. It’s expensive enough just to raise a child. But we shouldn’t financially cripple new families just as they get started.
