Michael Bell

365 Ad # 55

The plight of Michael Bell’s 92-year-old mother reminds us that while Medicare is good, it doesn’t go far enough in protecting our seniors from the escalating costs of prescription drugs, especially if they are in the “doughnut hole” and on their own. Single payer, California OneCare, not only provides prescription drug coverage for all, but it also means coverage for hearing aids, eye care, home health care, adult day care, hospice care and much more.

Americans are cruel. Only with a singlepayer system will there be an opportunity to turn the current malignant healthcare system into something that can provide for out physical and psychological needs. The current system reinforces counter-dependency myths that keep people thinking that healthcare is not something to be used, or depended on, in times of crisis. Shameful.

“What does the insurance industry have to do with health care?!” OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED NATIONS know the answer is, ‘nothing’. They all FINANCE HEALTH CARE through a SINGLE PAYER system. Single Payer STREAMLINES and SIMPLIFIES medical payments. “Private insurance” exists to make a profit.
Pay attention seniors and other medicare recipients. Increasingly, Medicare conducts more more and more business through private insurance by reducing care traditionally covered with the tax dollars you paid, and making you pay again, out of pocket for ‘supplementary’ coverage, provided by…that’s right, PRIVATE INSURANCE contractors who charge what they want, when they want. It’s CREATED an INDUSTRY OF FRAUD. Look at recent diclosures by federal investigators in Florida. Giving tax payer dollars to private business without strict federal and state oversight is not good for the mass majority of Californians, or any patient.
