David Clennon

365 Ad # 61

Many of us can lose our health insurance coverage if we change or lose jobs. For freelancers like actor David Clennon, the fear is even worse because his coverage depends on how much he earns in any given year. He’s been lucky so far, but if he had a bad year, he’d lose his coverage for himself and his family–a scary thought. The tragedy is that there are nearly seven million Californians who are already without coverage. Single payer, California OneCare would cover everybody, regardless of job status.

David's poignant message touches on the REFRAMING that our message needs:
to REJECT the 'given' that “working enough to have insurance” means one is LUCKY; that's part of the trap. Until we push a complete PARADIGM shift (towards what we are all in this for: that until ALL of us have the same, comprehensive, lifelong coverage, then none of us are secure), we will always be asking pretty please; relegated to sitting at a bargaining table, where the inevitable consequence is inadequate 'compromises' and 'incremental changes' like we've just witnessed on the national scale….
