If the insurance companies will rejoice why are they spending millions opposing the bill? If Republicans will high five each other why are there no Republican votes for the bill? If the tea baggers will celebrate, why are they marching in the streets trying to kill the bill? Are they all pretending to be unhappy about the bill, but in fact they are really happy? Are they waiting until it has passed to reveal their true feelings? How are you privy to what all these groups really think, but the rest of us are not? Have you infiltrated the secret tea party meetings where they talk about how they really want Congress to do what they are publicly demanding that Congress not do? If so, I would love to hear some details about that.

I would like to know how the federal bill might impact SB810. If states are not allowed to opt out of the federal system, can they supplement it with single-payer, or would they have to give up that option? How will those states which already have their own single-payer system, or a similar one, have to accommodate the federal plan?

Actually, this is a victory for the uninsured and those who are paying way too much for insurance. Middle class Americans will not have to pay more than a small percentage of their income towards health insurance and those with pre-existing conditions can no longer be denied coverage. For those who don't like to pay for insurance company profits, there will be non-profit plans in the exchange. The Senate bill really is a good compromise. A single payer system would be great, but it is not going to happen with all the moderates and conservatives in the house and senate. We have to compromise for the sake of the uninsured and underinsured and those dying and going bankrupt due to a health care system that remains unattainable to millions of Americans. The saying is true: "We can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good".
